How Long Should You Cook A Steak?
Steak is one of those meats that are tricky to master. As I am sure you have experienced at many a dinner party yourself, if you leave your steak cooking just a few minutes too long it turns into that chewing gum steak that never ever seems to disintegrate in your mouth that even the dog will turn its nose up at. And if steak is cooked for too little time, even those who like a rare steak will be left wondering whether their cut is so rare that it is about to jump off of the dinner plate in front of them and attach itself back onto the cow it came from.
So what is the perfect cooking time for a brilliant cut of steak? It greatly depends on how “done” you would like it, but the most accurate way to gauge its cooking would be to use a meat thermometer. But just in case you haven’t got one of those, check out the following steak cooking guide for a 2cm thick cut of meat:
For a rare steak: Cook the steak for 2 to 3 minutes on each side or between 121 and 126 degrees Fahrenheit on a probe thermometer.
For a medium steak: Cook the steak for 4 minutes on each side or roughly 136 degrees on a probe thermometer.
For a well done steak: Cook the steak for 5 to 6 minutes on each side or between 146 and 156 degrees Fahrenheit on a probe thermometer.

There are so many great features about this recipe that really make it a pleasure to put together. One of them is how speedy it is to get the recipe going and the other is the unbeatable fragrance of the spices mixing together creating a fantastic aroma that is sure to whet your appetite immediately.
This recipe is dead easy to make, but even the simplest of recipes can be challenging when you do not have the proper instructions at hand to execute them. So take a look at the following list of steps that will help you to mix up the most sublime concoction of spices and prepare your cut of steak.
- Using a large resealable food bag, combine all of the marinade ingredients together, seal the bag and then shake the contents until they are well mixed.
- Remove three tablespoons of the marinade aside in a small bowl.
- Place the steak in the large resealable bag with marinade and massage the mix around the meat, making sure it is completely covered. Marinate overnight in the fridge or up to 24 hours. (Tip: the longer you can marinate your meat the more intense the flavor).
- Heat your grill to 450 degrees Fahrenheit or 230 degrees Celsius. Use a thermometer probe to measure the internal temperature of the meat and grill it until it reaches 130 degrees (or for about 5 minutes per side, depending on how well cooked you like your steak).
- One it has finished grilling, remove your steak from the heat and allow it to rest for up to 15 minutes on a platter.
- Slice the steak against the grain and drizzle it lightly with the leftover marinade or spoon it into small dip pots that your guests can help themselves to as and when they please.
